The root chakra, also known as the Muladhara, is the first of the seven main energy centers in the body and is located at the base of the spine. This chakra is associated with feelings of safety, stability, and survival. When it is balanced, you feel grounded, secure, and connected to the world around you.

How to know if it's imbalanced
You may experience anxiety, fear, restlessness, or even physical symptoms such as fatigue or lower back discomfort.
Sometimes clients realise that they have been living with back pain or discomfort for years, but when they stop and take the time
to think about what was happening in their life at that point, they realise that it happened at a moment in time when they felt a lack of support with their basic needs.
So, how can you heal and strengthen your root chakra? Here are three effective techniques:
Grounding Through Nature
One of the simplest and most powerful ways to heal the root chakra is by reconnecting with the earth. Spending time in nature helps anchor your energy and restore a sense of stability. Walking barefoot on grass or sand, often called “earthing”—can be especially beneficial. Even sitting quietly in the park, focusing on your breath, and noticing the sensations around you can help calm your nervous system and bring you back into the present moment.
My favourite way to ground is to spend time at my local beach in Penarth and leave my phone at home - it's a chance to completely disconnect.
Nature naturally supports the root chakra because it reminds you that you are supported and connected to something greater.
Yoga pose - Mountain pose
The root chakra is all about stability, safety, and connection to the earth. In Mountain Pose, you:
Stand firmly on both feet
Distribute your weight evenly
Feel rooted and supported
This directly activates that “grounded” feeling the root chakra needs.
How to do it
Stand tall with your feet hip-width apart (or together)
Press your feet evenly into the ground
Engage your legs slightly, lifting through your knees
Lengthen your spine and relax your shoulders
Let your arms rest by your sides, palms facing forward
Breathe slowly and deeply
Have reiki
I would say this one! Reiki works with all the energy systems within the body to help balance everything out. As a reiki practitioner I work to balance all the chakras so that they're spinning at the same rate and to also remove stagnant energy which may be causing blockages.
The root chakra is the energetic foundation of your entire system.
When your root chakra is healthy, you feel safe, centered, and ready to grow in every area of your life.
